Dr Hossein Alipour

Hossein is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Business Analytics at The University of Sydney Business School. His work focuses on “optimal forecast reconciliation for hierarchical time series”, which is essentially an optimisation problem and can be modelled as a mixed integer program.

Hossein’ PhD project was on the Maximum Flow Problem: Features, Algorithms, and Implementations”, supervised by OPTIMA CI Professor Kate Smith-Miles. This included providing a comprehensive set of instances and new features of the problem to obtain insights into the strengths and weaknesses of its algorithms using Instance Space Analysis. These insights were then used to improve the current algorithms or introduce a better new one. Optimisation, machine learning, data analysis, programming (in MATLAB, C, and C++), algorithm design, and implementations of algorithms are the main parts of the project.
