Title: Peer Review Process in Operations Research
Speaker: Professor Dmitry Krass
Summary: The goal of this talk is to cover various aspects of the peer review process, particularly in the fields of OR/OM. The format will be a workshop, with a mix of lecture and audience participation. The particular topics we address are:
- History and goals of peer review
- Track record of peer review to date
- How to improve peer review?
- How to be a good referee
Biography: Dmitry Krass is a Professor of Operations Management and Statistics and Sydney Cooper Chair in Business and Technology at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He joined Rotman in 1989 after obtaining his Ph.D. in Operations Research from Johns Hopkins University. Since joining Rotman, he has held many administrative positions, ranging from the founding Academic Director of the Master of Management Analytics program, to the Ph.D. Program director for Operations Management (a position he held for 24 years).
Dmitry has published over 70 refereed papers in some of the top journals in the field of Operations Research/ Operations Management, in addition to serving in a number of editorial positions. His research interests include
- Data-driven Simulation Modeling
- Facility Location/Transportation: Reliability/Location Models, Inventory-Location Models, Location of service/inspection facilities on networks, Location of competitive retail facilities, Probabilistic flows on networks, Competitive spatial interaction models
- Environmental Modeling: Regulation of pollution fines
- Healthcare Analytics
- Marketing: Development and Application of Optimization Models for Marketing Mix Management, Optimal Effort Allocation
- Stochastic Dynamic Programming: problems with constraints, problems with non-standard payoff criteria
