AI-based Optimisation 12 October 2022 16:00

Speaker: Dr Asef Nazari, Deakin University

Title: Metaheuristics to solve NP-hard assembly line balancing problems

Designing and balancing assembly lines in response to customer-centric manufacturing requires solving an intractable mixed integer linear programming problem. Existing state-of-the-art software packages are not capable of solving these kinds of problems of a practical size, and metaheuristic solution strategies are inevitable. In this talk, I will present some recently developed metaheuristics for solving such problems.

Bio:

Asef received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics majoring in non-differentiable optimization from the Federation University in 2010. He has research experience across a wide spectrum of real-world problems and industrial applications, including work in the areas of supply chain management, logistics, and operations management, planning for the expansion of electricity networks, modeling of energy markets, mining operations optimization, and agricultural land allocation. He is also interested in using machine learning and artificial intelligence in solving problems dealing with big data.
