Bilel Derbel

Bilel Derbel is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Lille, France. His research expertise lies at the intersection of optimization, computational intelligence, and high-performance computing (HPC). His current research spans multiple areas, including combinatorial optimization, black-box optimization, multi-objective optimisation, stochastic search heuristics, evolutionary algorithms, fitness landscape analysis, and parallel/HPC-accelerated optimisation algorithms. He is particularly interested in the design and analysis of advanced high-level intelligent optimisation techniques, with a strong focus on fundamentally understanding the relationship between optimization problem characteristics and algorithm behaviour and dynamics. He is a founding member and chair of the IEEE CIS Task Force on Decomposition-Based Techniques in Evolutionary Computation. He is the leader of the BONUS (“Big Optimization and Ultra-Scale Computing”) research group.
