Achini Wellalage
Achini is a PhD graduate from the University of Melbourne and an alumna of the OPTIMA. Her doctoral research focused on discrete stochastic optimisation and scheduling techniques, with her thesis titled “A Simulation and Optimisation Approach for Staff Rostering of a Blood Donor Centre”. The project aimed to determine optimal staff shift configurations by predicting staffing demand and accounting for uncertainties in the blood donation process. She was co-supervised by OPTIMA Chief Investigators Dr Joyce Zhang and Prof. Mark Fackrell.
Following her PhD, Achini began her career at RMIT University. She currently works as an Analytics Engineer at Cancer Council Victoria, where she applies data analytics to support evidence-based decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and contribute to cancer research and prevention initiatives. Her work bridges technical expertise and real-world impact, demonstrating the value of data in driving meaningful outcomes.
