About the Role
Hew 6, 0.6 FTE, based at the University of Melbourne, Parkville.
The Education and Outreach Officer position is situated within the ARC Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies, and Applications (OPTIMA).
OPTIMA is based at the University of Melbourne in Parkville, with a second node at Monash University in Clayton. OPTIMA is expected to conduct world-class research and provide training for research students working in industrial optimisation. The research program focuses on model-based and black-box optimisation methodologies relevant to a broad range of industry partner optimisation challenges. A multidisciplinary approach is expected, drawing from techniques developed in mathematics, computer science, statistics, engineering, and economics.
The incumbent will be based in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Melbourne in Parkville. The Education and Outreach Officer is responsible for assisting the Centre Manager in delivering the Centre’s education program and growing the Centre’s outreach presence across a range of audiences, including schools, government, industry, and the community. The incumbent is responsible for seeking broader community exposure to the Centre’s research outcomes offered by the Centre.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in delivering the Centre’s Outreach and Education events, attending meetings, and supporting the Centre’s seminar series.
- Developing promotional material, such as videos, brochures, and merchandise.
- Updating the Centre’s website, social media, and newsletter with current information.
- Promoting OPTIMA research to the general public, government, industry, and schools, and coordinating the Centre’s outreach initiatives to promote the Centre.
- Reporting on the Centre’s outreach activities and interacting with relevant University management to improve capacity to deliver successful outreach and education programs.
- Contributing to OPTIMA as part of the Project Team and maintaining responsibility for working within the OPTIMA budget.
About You
You will have the ability to manage workload through changing priorities, peak periods and other centre deadlines and have highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interact with a diverse range of people in an organisation and a commitment to quality service. You will possess a high level of self-motivation, initiative, and ability to provide creative solutions to problems and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Studies or work experience in an optimisation field is desirable but not essential.
You will also have:
- A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience in an educational institution or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, educational training, or extensive experience
- Proven ability and experience to contribute to the ongoing development of the education and outreach programs and strategies
- Proven experience in program or events management
- Demonstrated appreciation of or affinity with STEM education programs and activities and a commitment to delivering quality service to event participants
